Bidouilles On My Wing
Audio

For me, the audio installation delivered by origin with the Goldwing is a part of some "scandals" or "lightnesses"of this motorcycle. Indeed even if she has indisputable assets, the Goldwing also has really despicable concerns of finish for this price!

As many of you I had a mp3 reader connected on the auxiliare plug of the Goldwing.
For my part it was a 3rd generation Ipod ( Apple) with 4Gb memory. I had tinkered a support fixed to a removable system stand what allowed me having it well in sight.

When I added my Zümo, I realized it was useless and not practice to have two devices for the same function. Indeed every time we stopped somewhere it was necessary to disconnect everything and then the syndrome " Boeing 747 Dashboard " is not my trick but everyone acts in one's own interest naturally.

GPS GARMIN ZUMO 500

Zümo, besides its function of GPS offers among others the advantage to integrate a mp3 reader. As I have already said, it was stupid to have two devices which made the same thing so I equipped my Zümo with a 4Gb SD Card just to add songs of my Ipod.

THE BEST OF THE ZUMO
An only device to plug and unplug.
Mp3 reader is powered by the bike
The Zümo is waterproof

THE WORST OF THE ZUMO
Random reading of the mp3 reader

Besides then raised also the problem of the sound level in helmets. So I added an ampli ( Ampli-Rider) and a filter (Ground Loop Isolator) against the interferences.

GROUND LOOP ISOLATOR

The supply of my Zümo is done by my 12V dedicated line also to the lighting of my leds.
This practical solution can have the major inconvenience to be subject to interferences due to the alternator. It is the role of the GLI that to cancel these interferences. It is directly connected with the exit of the GPS and plugged in the connector of the Goldwing.

AMPLI RIDER

The use of the audio function on the Wing is limited for us to the listening of the mp3 reader of the GPS through helmets. We are discreet people, we never use loudspeaker of the bike. In this configuration, the "a little bit soft" musical listening of certain pieces shows itself sometimes problematic although there is a little wind or although the ground is degraded, finally in brief when the environment is "noisy".

To give you an idea, the listening level of our MP3 reader is between 22 and 25.

To overcome this problem of noise and sound quality I decided to add an ampli. I chose the ampli-rider having read many opinions on forums.

This amplifier is manufactured and sold by electric avenues (http://www.electric-avenues.com/amplirider.html). Feel free to contact them, Gary is actually very nice and answer all your questions.

Fitting is relatively easy once one has understood the connections. The amplifier comes like that.

The amplifier is composed of a main box where you can connect three different entrances and exits. A second box has a volume knob.
The connection between the two boxes is via two cords.

If like me (In my first mount version) you want to place it in the empty left-front pocket ask Gary to deliver the ampli-rider with short cords.

Here it is! It works! Not only the sound is louder (The average sound level went from 22-25 to 13-16) but also stand out more bass and treble again became audible, even on soft songs!

In this configuration we still have :

Intercom
Radio
GPS
Mp3 Reader

Note: In my second version I integrated the volume knob with relays in the left empty-pocket when the ampli-rider has migrated into the right empty pocket.
