After the failure of my first support, I continued my search to carry out a support for GPS wich would be esthetic, perfectly integrated into the dashboard, while avoiding to the maximum drilling holes and by keeping the gps in front of head. Of my sidecarist past(10 years) I kept a good control of the resin and glass fiber. It is as that which will be made my new support. |

The objective is to mould the dashboard of the goldwing and grinding the edge towards the instruments which will block the whole. The whole being fixed on the front near the windscreen. For those which never touched with the resin polyester, there are precautions to take for oneself (that smells very bad and it is corrosive) but also for the bike (A spot or a run-out are a drama!!). The principle is to mix resin with a catalyst and to impregnate with glass fiber. Warning!! The reaction is exothermic (It's hot!). While grinding the instrument panel, one inserts a stainless square there which will be used as support to the GPS. 1°) One recovers the dashboard with adhesive tape aluminium (for heat) and one protects TO the MAXIMUM (But then maximum is very maximum) the bike. 2°) One applies beeswax which will facilitate (a little bit) the release from the mould. 3°) One applies the whole, resin, fiber glass while trying to cross and make a regular thickness. NOT TO FORGET TO RETURN UNDER THE FRONT EDGE. 4°) One unmoulds by slipping with the need something between dashboard and the moulding. 5°) Completions. Cut out edge, sandpapering, cement, sandpapering, painting. 6°) Fixing. With the choice, drive screw for those which want. Personally I used double side adhesive. 7°) The result. Frankly, the result is splendid! The unit is integrated perfectly in the dashboard. It is very nice!! I am charmed and for a very low cost!!! If you do not have two left hands, do not hesitate, the result is seizing!
